Questions & answers
How do I use this tool?
Type or paste text. Compare words, characters and characters without whitespace. Clear removes the text.
Does it keep working in another tab?
Timing uses elapsed timestamps; tab changes do not reset it. Sleeping devices or closed browsers can stop alerts. Text is counted locally when edited.
What happens after I reload the page?
Text and stopwatch laps are not saved. Only a timer scenario that you started is stored in this browser and can be loaded or deleted.
Why can results differ from another tool?
Browser scheduling affects time display updates. Word segmentation and Unicode character counting can differ from submission forms. Verify final results where you submit.
Essay Word Counter and Character Count
Paste your essay or assignment to check words and characters while editing. Use the unit required by the assignment: word limits and character limits are different. Select only the sections that should be counted; this tool does not automatically exclude references or quotations. Hyphenated words, abbreviations, numbers and mixed languages may be handled differently by another editor. Reading time is an estimate rounded up at 200 words per minute, not a prediction of speech duration. Rehearse with the presentation stopwatch for actual speaking time. Text is processed locally and is not saved. Keep a separate draft before clearing or reloading and check the final submission system before handing in the work.
